2018 Rocket Launch

The sky is the limit!

The rocketry club has asked us to be at the launch pad by 9:45 for a safety orientation.  Each scout should bring a dollar or two to put in the tip jar and say thanks when they first arrive.

Date:     April 21, 2018
Time:     9:45-am to 11:30
Location: Bear Creek Lake Park
Address:    Kumpfmiller Dr. Morrison CO 80228

We had a great time last year and hope everyone can come.  It will be cool this time.  Yea!
We will be at the rocket and airplane launch pad at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood. We are guests of CRASH and we are asked to be on time. There is a $7 admission per car.  Meet at the park n ride and we will depart from there and carpool in to the park at 9:30am.
3485 S Rooney Rd, Morrison, CO 80465
Park n Ride Carpool

If you choose to go straight to the parking lot, do not proceed to the launch pad. We will enter as a group and then be given an orientation together.  Enter the park near Morrison Rd and 470.  The navigation takes you to a closed gate at the east end of the park.

Everyone can leave when they have had enough. Some of us never get enough.  One more engine please!   Engines, wadding and launch pads will be provided. Have fun building your rockets!

2018 Pinewood Derby

Cub Scouts, start your engines!

Announcing the 2018 Pinewood Derby!

We will be holding our annual Pinewood Derby race on March 8 at 6:30.  The Pinewood Derby is a time-honored Cub Scout tradition that involves building your own car and racing it against your fellow Scouts' cars.
Car kits were given to all active scouts. You can also purchase car kits at the Scout Store, at Michael's, or at US Toys.  Just make sure that you buy Official BSA car kits, NOT other similar car kits like those used for Awanas.

Building Your Car

You will have about a month to build your car.

Rules

Use Official BSA materials only
Car must weigh no more than 5.0 ounces
If the car weighs less than 5.0 ounces, that's fine, but it won't win
No motors or fans or other propulsion

Tips and Tricks:
Boys Life: How to make a fast derby car
Maximum Velocity: Five keys to Pinewood Derby performance

Awards

Awards will be given to the first and second place finishing cars for the Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos and AOL dens.  The Scout with the fastest car will also win the Pack Champion trophy.  We may also add a scouts choice design award.  All Scouts will be awarded ribbons for their cars.  You can try to make the fastest car, or you can try to make the most creative or most colorful or whatever kind of car you can imagine!

Arapahoe District Pinewood Derby

The first and second place winners from each den will be able to participate in the Arapahoe district pinewood derby in April.  More information will be made available closer to that event of go to the DAC site's calendar.

Have fun doing this with your scout!

Scout Sunday 2/4/2018

Pack 794 Families,
On Saturday night and Sunday morning we will be gathering and serving at MHC for scout Sunday. Our wonderful chartering organization would love to have all our boys help as greeters before the services. This is a great opportunity for us to give back and let people know what a wonderful bunch of scouts we have. The boys should come in their best full uniforms. Please let me know if and when you can help even if you normally go to church elsewhere. We will meet at the welcome center desk/ guest services a half hour before services start.  Saturday evening we will be meet at 4:30 and Sunday morning at 8:45 and 10:30. I hope everyone can make it to one of the services to help. No one is expected to attend all of them. One is great. Check back here for updates.  If this does not work for your family and you attend elsewhere please have your scout wear their full uniform to your worship service and offer to helpful in some way.  Shadowing an usher is usually one of the more age appropriate tasks cubscouts can do.

Blue & Gold Banquet/ Crossover 2018

On Thursday, February 8, 2018 Pack 794 will be holding our Blue and Gold Banquet and Crossover Ceremony!  We will meet in the Garage and start at 6:45.  All scouts and their families are welcome.

Each year in February, the Boy Scouts of America celebrates the anniversary of its founding in 1910. To commemorate this, Cub Scout Packs hold the Blue and Gold Banquet in February or March each year.  Our Pack has three Arrow Of Light Scouts who will be graduating, or crossing over, to the Boy Scout Troop this year.

Congratulations to Andrew West, John Caldwell & Jack Ballard who will be receiving their Arrow of Light award, and will be crossing over into Boy Scout Troop 794.  It has been a great pleasure to serve as their leaders and watch them work with their families to earn this award.
We would also like to welcome Brenden Chart to 794.  He will be crossing over the following week from Pack 870 of St. Andrews UMC and Sky View Academy at their ceremony.
We all wish them all the best of luck in Boy Scouts!

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Yours in Scouting,
Mr. West

2018 Recharter and Annual Dues

Pack 794 Parents,
At the beginning of every year we have to renew our charter with BSA as a children's ministry of Mission Hills Church.  In January we will need the following from you. We wanted to give you an advance reminder so you can set some money aside if you need to.
  • Annual Dues: A check for $160 written to Pack 794 unless your scout sold $700 in popcorn. This covers all shared expenses for basic events, hand books, neckerchiefs,  advancement and Duty to God Programs.  Items that cost extra are: Uniforms, Car, Rocket and Boat kits as well as Trips to Colorado Adventure Point, Day Camp, Camp or family camping.  Our basic program (not including camps and camping) cost us about $250 per year per scout and is a great value.
  • YPT Confirmation: A PDF or paper certificate of confirmation that you have completed Youth Protection Training in the last year and that it is valid through 2/1/2019.  Mission Hills Church and our leadership have this from every parent parter who is contact with the scouts.  Go to Adult Training  You will need to log in or create an account.
  • myscouting app:Go to appstore and download this app especially if you are a leader.  You can do your YPT training on your mobile device.  You may need a a BSA ID.
  • BSA Id: Please make sure you only use one BSA ID.  This is how BSA identifies Scouters and Scouts. Some leaders have acquired a second and it has created a problems for us when we recharter.  Use the one you are listed with in scoutbook.  It is important everyone knows what theirs is and that they keep it with their logons and passwords.
  • Scoutbook Profile: Login to scoutbook and update/ complete your profile and your scouts profile.   Please  Please include cell phone.  We will be texting short notice messages and cancellations.
  • Google Calendar: Go to the calendar on this blog.  Push + and you will add our pack calendar to your google calendar.  The google calendar app manages this well.  You can do the same with the Troop calendar and see both at the same time.
  • Blogger Site: Keep up with event details posted to this site.
  • Heath Forms: We will need BSA Medical Forms A & B as well as The Colorado Addendum for all scouts as well as any siblings or adult partners participating in activities.  Keep an unsigned and undated copy for yourself.  Medical Form AB  Colorado Medical Addendum
  • Talent Survey:Volunteers run our pack and we need every parent partner to be a helper and have some small investment in the pack.  Please turn in a talent survey and consider how you would like to help.  We need administrative helpers for one time events, coordinating volunteers, medical records, website, membership, den advancement records, planning hikes, campouts, shopping for food, communications, public relations, community partner relationships, fundraising projects, building pinewood derby cars, judging events, photography/ historian, leading games before and after meetings, setting up and cleaning up the rooms after meetings.  Scouting is a pie and I want to share a yummy slice with everyone.  It is not too good when you eat too many slices your self.  :)  Parent Partner Talent Survey
Please get the money and documents to Mr. Crew our 2018 Committee Chair.  Checks are great but we can also take cards in person or over the phone.

Thanks for your help in taking care of the logistics and keep our kids as safe as possible.  We are looking forward to a great year! with lots of fun and even more camping to meet hiking, camping and cooking requirements.  See the planning calendar attached.  Feel free to post it on our scouts bedroom wall or the refrigerator.

Yours in Christ and Scouting,
Sean West
