Cubmaster Message
Welcome:
Welcome to
Pack 794 were our boys are prepared for life.
We are so glad you are here. We are happy to have you and your boy be a
part of our pack and look forward to having a lot of fun together. Boy Scout
Troop 794 of MHC meets in the same building at the same time. We both follow the leadership guidelines of
our chartering organization, Missions Hills Church and have both been part of
the Christian children’s ministry there for 25 years. All are welcome here. Being inclusive is key to the scouting
program. Our members worship at
different churches in the area and come from different backgrounds. We also follow the Youth Protection Policies
of BSA. We love your kids too and want
to make sure they are safe. For more information, please visit: www.bsapack794.org
Your role as a parent:
We welcome
you and thank you for furthering your commitment to your scout’s development
with regard to character, spiritual growth, physical abilities, academic
success, & more. Parent Participation is required. A consistent partner, guardian or mentor must
attend meetings and other events because your involvement leads directly to his
success and fun with you by his side to share it all, have fun, make memories
and grow closer!
Volunteers
run our pack & we need every parent partner to be a helper and have some
small investment in the pack. Help us make your boy’s time as a scout
a fun & memorable experience for both of you. Please turn in a talent survey to the den leader.
Advancement:
You are Akela!
You will be his Akelia and sign off his work when you feel
he is ready. You will have a great
time together and grow closer. In "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling, Akela was
the leader of the wolf pack. You are the leader of the pack! You get to do all
the activities with your Boy. You get to decide the pace, duration and how much
is expected of your boy. You know them best and how hard you can work while
keeping it fun. Most Cub Scout assignments are about doing the task together
not being tested. Remember to keep it simple and make it fun!
Now here is the best part. When you do it together you get
to sign them off immediately! Immediate praise and affirmation is important so
celebrate each one together and use the handshake. Let them now how proud you
are and how much you love them. They will love the time they get to spend with
you. I have done a lot of these things with my son and my daughter together.
She has got a lot out of it too. It just helps me be a better parent.
Work closely with your den leader to make sure that your son
is earning awards for all of his fun work. Many sports and other family
activities your child participates in qualify your son for scout awards. Read through your son’s scout book &
access this link (http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/a-sindex.asp)
for detailed information on how your son can earn awards both individually
&with his den.
Leadership:
I want to invite all
of you to participate not just because it is good for the kids but as leaders
and parents we get so much out of it. Leadership is an entire pie and I want to
share a slice with all of you. All we ask is that you do your best. I realize that being a good parent is one of
the most important jobs I have in life. Cub Scouts had an unexpected effect on
me when I realized how it was helping me to become a better parent. I have
become more aware of and taken advantage of opportunities that have come up
with my son and daughter. I feel more fulfilled, positive and energized for
other things and people in my life like marriage, family and work. I think of
the purpose that Rick Warren talked about as well as keeping a balance to life.
When we are doing the right thing we get filled. If this is for you, come and
get filled with
Youth Protection:
Parent partners must read parent introduction youth protection segment at the
beginning of each handbook. You need to review highlights this with your Scout
as it is part of his requirements. Try
to keep it to 15 minutes. You also need to take the 20 min.
Youth Protection Training Online Module @www.my.scouting.org.
Please send us a PDF of the confirmation when you are done
for the Pack's records. It is easy and a great reminder of things we need to
do.
Uniforms:
Uniforms can be purchased at the Denver Scout
Shop at 10455 West 6th Avenue, Denver, 80215. They will need a uniform
shirt. The blue one can be worn for
Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos. When they earn the Webelos rank
they will need a khaki uniform to put it on. It is nice if they can earn
the right to wear the kaki uniform in this way. If joining as a Webelos
scout, it if fine to buy kaki. Lions wear a T Shirt that we have. The uniform shirt is to be worn to all Pack
meetings, Den meetings, School on the day of meetings, Church and in
Public. A “Class B”or athletic scouting
T-shirt will be available for $15 and is great under the uniform. This shirt can be worn alone for
outdoor events such as hiking or camping once we arrive at the event. Full details
about our Pack's uniform requirements can be found here.
Thank you so much for joining us! We‘re looking forward to an exciting, fun year!!
