General Information

Welcome

Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 794 of Mission Hills Church where our boys are prepared for life!  We strive to partner with you to "Train up your child in the way he should go..." Proverbs 22:6.
All are welcome here.  We are happy to have you and your boy be a part of our pack and look forward to having a lot of fun together.   Boy Scout Troop 794 of Mission Hills Church, which shares the same values as our pack, also meets in the same building at the same time.  Together we offer a K-12 scouting experience for boys and their adult partner on Thursday nights.  We follow the objectives and leadership guidelines of our chartering organization, Mission Hills Church and have followed goals of the children's ministry there since 1992. Being inclusive is a core element of the scouting program.  Our members worship at different churches and come from different backgrounds.  We also follow the Youth Protection Policies of BSA.  We love your kids too and want to make sure they are safe. We look forward to experiencing the adventure of Scouting together with you and your boy.

Location

For our meetings, enter Mission Hills Church at the lower north east corner.  Come in and go up the stairs.  We are in the Sidewalk Hallway on the left.

Meetings

We meet on Thursday nights at 6:45 PM in the Sidewalk area of the church. Info for the events in the pack calendar indicate the meeting place. We have our pack meetings the second or third Thursday of each month, where everyone meets together for awards, recognition, and special events. Den meetings happen one or two other Thursdays, where the Scouts meet with their Dens, broken out by grade level, and they work on completing Adventures. A pack committee meeting takes place on the fourth Thursday typically, although other events may also happen.

Cancellation Policy

If MHC is closed our meetings are canceled.  A red banner is usually posted on the church site when the building is closed.  Check the following link for closures and pack meeting cancelation.  Also check our google or scoutbook calendar for immediate updates.
Mission Hills Church
Den meetings may also be canceled if the leader cannot make it.  Check your google den calendar first please then contact your den leader.

Organization

The Pack is divided up into Dens by age / grade level. Each Den is lead by an adult Den Leader.

  • Lions are Kindergarten, 5 years old before October.
    • Lions meet separately as a Den
    • Must be accompanied by an Adult Partner (Parent, Grandparent, etc.)
  • Tigers are First Grade, 6-7 years old
    • Tigers must be also accompanied by an Adult Partner
  • Wolves are Second Grade, 7-8 years old
  • Bears are Third Grade, 8-9 years old
  • Webelos scouts are Fourth Grade, 9-10 years old
  • Arrow of Light scouts are Fifth Grade, 10-11 years old

Upon completing Arrow of Light, fifth grade or turning 11 years old your Scout can join a Boy Scout Troop to continue with Scouting. Mission Hills Church charters Troop 794, but you can join any of the troops in the Denver Area Council.

Advancement

Read through your son's Scout Manual for his rank, and you can also follow the web links on the right column for detailed information about what awards your Cub Scout can earn both individually and with his Den.  Work closely with your Den Leader to make sure that your Scout is earning awards for all of his hard work.  Many sports and other family activities outside of Scouting can be used to qualify for Cub Scout awards.

Activities

At the beginning of the school year, we have our annual Popcorn Sale fundraiser. This is our primary fundraiser for the year, and is used to fund our activities. During the year, these activities will include the Raingutter Regatta boat race, the Pinewood Derby car race, the Blue and Gold Banquet, Service Projects, Main Event nights, and Camping! We also periodically have s'mores nights at the church fire pit, and other fun special awards/projects. In addition, at the Den meetings, different activities will be completed that are related to rank advancement, or Adventures. The Adventures are listed in your Cub Scout’s manual.

Camping Opportunities

There are a few camping opportunities for Cub Scouts during the Summer.

  • The Denver Area Council typically hosts a day camp during the summer, with registration information available online.
  • In June and July, there is Cub Scout Adventure Camp, held at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch near Elbert, CO.
    • Adventure Camp is a four-day, three night camping experience for Cub Scouts and a parent.
    • Activities typically include swimming, boating, BB guns, archery, slingshots, gaga ball, crafts, and older Cubs may have opportunities for horse riding and rappelling.
    • Siblings can also attend and participate.
    • The cost is approximately $200/scout and $120 per sibling and parent.
  • In the fall, we will have a Pack Family Campout
